_We were created in 1968 as a non-profit, 501 (C)(E) organization, under the name of Blue Canyon Foundation, located at the southeast end of Lake Whatcom. When Northern State Hospital closed in the early 1970's, our focus shifted from retardation and elderly care to mental health. In 1980 we moved closer to Bellingham and changed our name to Lake Whatcom Residential and Treatment Center - Lake Whatcom Center (LWC) for short. Since then, we have expanded our services to Bellingham and currently provide licensed residential and community health services, including employment services. Lake Whatcom Center is part of the Associated Provider Network (APN), providing services to the five Northwest Washington counties.
